N°7: Freedom
७. अर्हद्वर्गः सप्तमः

The traveler has finally reached the end of their journey! Free from sorrow, free from the chains that held them, no more sweaty fever of life, just the freedom of the infinite.
गताध्वनो विशोकस्य विप्रमुक्तस्य सर्वथा ।
सर्वग्रन्थप्रहीणस्य परिदाहो न विद्यते ॥ १॥

Keep thoughts elevated and continue to strive for higher places and insights, just like swans that leave their pond and fly away to a higher nest.
उद्युञ्जते स्मृतिमन्तो न निकेते रमन्ते ते ।
हंसा इव पल्वलं हित्त्वा ओकमोकं जहति ते ॥ २॥

Who can follow in the path of those whose awareness nurtures life, who dislike excesses, who are elevated into total freedom, into the infinite Void without beginning? It is as difficult as trying to follow a bird who has taken flight.
येषां सन्निचयो नाऽस्ति ये परिज्ञातभोजनाः ।
शून्यतोऽनिमित्तश्च विमोक्षो येषां गोचरः ।
आकाश इव शकुन्तानां गतिस्तेषां दुरन्वया ॥ ३॥

Who can follow the invisible path of one who flies high and dry in total freedom, in the infinite Void without beginning, whose only temptation is peace and who cannot be overcome by pleasures? It is as difficult as flying after a bird who has taken off.
यस्यास्रवाः परिक्षीणा आहारे च अनिःसृतः ।
शून्यतोऽनिमित्तश्च विमोक्षो यस्य गोचरः ।
आकाश इव शकुन्तानां पदं तस्य दुरन्वयम् ॥ ४॥

Anyone who wisely pays attention to his or her senses like a driver watches traffic, who is free from the lowest temptations and pride, they are all admired even by the gods.
यस्येन्द्रियाणि शमथं गतानि अश्वा यथा सारथिना सुदान्ताः ।
प्रहीणमानस्य अनास्रवस्य देवा अपि तस्य स्पृहयन्ति तादृशः ॥ ५॥

Calm as the earth that can carry all the weight, strong and firm as a mainstay, as pure as a clear lake, free of SAMSARA: the return of life and death.
पृथिवीसमो न विरुध्यते इन्द्रकीलोपमः तादृक् सुव्रतः ।
हृद इवापेतकर्दमः संसारा न भवन्ति तादृशः ॥ ६॥

Freedom is found in a clear and lofty perspective, thoughts in rest, words in rest, work in rest.
शान्तं तस्य मनो भवति वाक् च कर्म च ।
सम्यगाज्ञाविमुक्तस्य उपशान्तस्य तादृशः ॥ ७॥

Yes, it really is true that the greatest are able to ignore all attachments, temptations having lost their appeal, the chains of the low pleasures have been broken, since they have seen the magnificent eternal NIRVANA and everything else had paled in comparison.
अश्रद्धोऽकृतज्ञश्च सन्धिछेदश्च यो नरः ।
हतावकाशो वान्ताशः स वै उत्तम पुरुषः ॥ ८॥

Wherever they go, joy follows – in the village, in the forest, in an open valley or on the hills.
ग्रामे वा यदि वाऽऽरण्ये निम्ने वा यदि वा स्थले ।
यत्रार्हन्तो विहरन्ति सा भूमी रामणीयका ॥ ९॥

In the woods where others would never think of staying, they can make a wonderful home. For they no longer bear the burden of needing all kinds of things, they find salvation and happiness even where others do not see it.
रमणीयान्यरण्यानि यत्र न रमते जनः ।
वीतरागा रंस्यन्ते न ते कामगवेषिणः ॥ १०॥
